Crucial today announces the release of their new P5 Plus NVMe SSD, which is an significant upgrade over the original P5. It is also the first Gen 4-capable drive from the company.



The P5 Plus is supplied with hardware from Micron (Crucial’s parent company). The unknown in-house memory controller is paired with the latest 176-Layer B47R 3D TLC NAND flash and LPDDR4 RAM cache. It comes in three storage capacities, ranging from 500 GB to 2 TB. Combined with the PCIe 4.0×4 interface, the SSD can reach sequential read/write speeds up to 6600 MB/s and 5000 MB/s respectively. The 500 GB model will have slower write speed at 3600 MB/s. The overall performance on paper is slightly less than PCIe 4.0 drives equipped with Phsion PS5018-E18 controller.

All models are provided with a 5-year warranty. They have a rated MTBF of 2 million hours, and endurance limit from 300 TBW to 1200 TBW. The P5 Plus is priced at $107.99 USD for 500 GB, $179.99 USD for 1 TB and $367.99 USD for 2 TB (MSRP).
