Portable/External SSDs exceed ordinary external hard drives by a country mile, in terms of pure performance. Faster and larger SSDs are available now, due to better NAND flash technologies. Transcend recently announced a new portable SSD, named ESD350C, which is rated to reach speeds of up to 1050 MB/s.
The ESD350C uses a USB 3.1 Gen 2 or USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface to transfer data, that has a maximum throughput of about 10 Gbps (~1250 MB/s). Users will connect the drive to any computers via a USB Type-C port. It is compatible with both Windows and macOS, as well as Android on-the-go (OTG) mobile devices.
You can choose to have a 240 GB, 480 GB or 960 GB model. Inside the shock-resistant plastic casing is a PCIe M.2 SSD using 3D TLC NAND flash. It can achieve sequential read and write speeds at up to 1050 MB/s and 950 MB/s respectively.
The ESD350C will come with a 3-year warranty. Transcend has yet to announce the availability of the new portable drive. On Amazon, the 240 GB ESD350C costs $99.99 USD, 480 GB at $129.99 USD and 960 GB at $209.99 USD (MSRP).
