Microsoft is finally launching the new dual-screen “communication device”, Surface Duo, which was first announced in October 2019’s event. It will be available for pre-order now and released on September 10.
A large 8.1-inch display can be formed by unfolding the devices’ two 5.6-inch Pixel Sense AMOLED screens, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The hinge allows for 360-degree rotations. The Surface Duo will be running a custom-made UI on top of Android 10, which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The system can automatically put new apps or content on the other unused screen to boost its multi-tasking ability.
Strangely enough, the Surface Duo is equipped with only one 11 megapixel camera on top of the right display. For comparison, the Galaxy Fold has a total of six cameras scattered around the chassis.
The Surface Duo will be priced starting at $1399.99 USD (MSRP) for the 128 GB model. You can pre-order now on Microsoft Online Store and Best Buy. It will be shipped on September 10.
