Unboxing of Misfit Vapor 2 Smartwatch

Misfit Vapor 2 Smartwatch

The Vapor 2 is the 2nd generation smartwatch from Misfit. It removes the touch sensitive bezel from the original Vapor, but large part of the hardware configuration remains unchanged. Let’s unbox the smartwatch. (Misfit released the newer Vapor X, while we are writing this article.)

The size of the box is similar to a smartphone. The front shows an image of the Vapor 2 smartwatch, with the Misfit and Wear OS logo around it. A trio of icons indicates the main features of the watch, such as integrated GPS, swim-proof and heart rate monitoring.

You can see the Misfit app at the back. It is a bit misleading, because the application only works with the old Vapor smartwatch, not Vapor 2.

More features about the Vapor 2 smartwatch can be found on both sides of the packaging, and are in various languages.

Opening the box, the Vapor 2 smartwatch and the the charging cable are hidden behind the carrying bag. They are surrounded and protected by soft foam.

For accessories, you get a proprietary charging cable and a carrying pouch. A series of paperwork can also be found, such as the warranty information and quick start guide.

The Vapor 2 is charged via the included USB cable. It uses magnet to align the watch and the two metal pins to charge it. You will have to supply your own power adapter.

The Misfit Vapor 2 is available in two watch sizes, 41 mm and 46 mm. I bought the 46 mm model with a 1.4-inch OLED screen. It is equipped with the older Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. It is less powerful and efficient than the Wear 3100 SoC on newer smartwatches. Unlike the Vapor, the Vapor 2 runs on Google’s Wear OS platform. It is compatible with iOS 9.3+ and Android 4.4+ smartphones.

There are integrated GPS and heart rate monitor on the Vapor 2 for more accurate fitness tracking, using the built-in Google Fit app. The watch is water-resistant for up to 30 meters, which should have no problem for shallow swimming.

The 46 mm Vapor 2 has a thickness of about 11.2 mm and has been fitted with a 330 mAh battery inside. Misfit claims the watch can last for about a full day (~24 hours). On the right side of the watch, there are a scroll-able crown/button and microphone. They are used to control the Wear OS interfaces and Google Assistant respectively.

The sport watch band is made out of silicone with a leather-like texture on top. The metal clasp has tiny “MISFIT” texts. The band is removable and can be swapped with other 20 mm-wide bands.

Impressions

The Misfit Vapor 2 smartwatch is solidly built. It is thin enough to wear for a whole day comfortably. The Wear 2100 SoC and the 512 MB of RAM show some lags occasionally, when navigating across the interfaces. App launch times are acceptable, generally taking less than 15 seconds. The battery life seems very reasonable. It can last about 1 to 1.5 days with always-on display and continuous heart rate monitoring.

Overall, the Vapor 2 is a decent Wear OS smartwatch, but I would recommend you purchasing smartwatches with the newer Wear 3100 SoC, such as the Misfit Vapor X and Fossil Sport.
