About a week ago (Early December), Google released their Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Nexus or Pixel smartphones, as well as the Go edition for low-end phones. Current Android Wear 2.0 for numerous smartwatches in the market is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. There is little information whether an update is available for Android Wear, until Google announced its arrival and the list of supported devices recently.
According to Google, only small tweaks and improvements are included in the Oreo update, unlike the huge re-design in the Nougat Update a year ago.
You will now be able to customize the watch’s vibration strength for incoming notifications, such as “Normal”, “Long” and “Double”. You can also lock the watch’s touch screen to prevent accidental interaction when in wet conditions. Moreover, the update adds support for seven new countries/languages.
Google also released the compatible list of Android Wear smartwatches for the Oreo update, but the actual availability of the software will depend on the manufacturers. Most recently launched smartwatches are going to get the new update.
