Storage devices, like high-capacity HDDs and SSDs, are receiving an unusual amount of attention and demand, due to the release of the new Chia coin cryptocurrency. Surprisingly, TEAMGROUP launches the T-CREATE EXPERT PCIe NVMe SSD with exceptionally durability rating for miners, while other SSD manufacturers are modifying their warranty terms to avoid abuse.
The T-CREATE EXPERT uses a PCIe 3.0×4 interface for data transfer, which is capable of reaching sequential read/write speeds up to 3400 MB/s and 3000 MB/s. IOPS numbers are low, even for a Gen 3 drive, at only 180,000 at read and 140,000 at write. TEAMGROUP does not disclose the model and type of the memory controller and NAND flash. However, the raw performance is not the main selling point of the SSD. The 1 TB model is rated for 6000 TBW and the 2 TB for a whopping 12000 TBW. It is about three to four times more durable than normal SSDs with 3D TLC NAND flash. Both versions have a MTBF of 3 million hours, paired with a 12-year warranty.
The drive is available for pre-order now and should appear on major local/online retailers soon.
